Recline at My Table (Mark 2)
There's a crowd that gathers round him
But I can't
For holiness has kept me at a distance
Away from this man
If I could get a little closer I would
But there's no reason to go
Where I'm not understood
But you call me in the midst of the crowd
Saying "follow me," you've destiny
You love me somehow
He reclines at my table
With sinners and thieves
Sweet Jesus my savior
What can I give you but me
And you say come and follow
And I will if you lead
So recline at my table
As long as you need
There's a crowd outside my window
With their eyes on this man
Knitted brows and gritted teeth that long for justice
But justice is his hands
And he came to call the sinners to life
For the righteous don't need him
Or want him close by
It's the sick who well know they need help
So great healer and physician
We welcome you now
He reclines at my table
With sinners and thieves
Sweet Jesus my savior
What can I give you but me
And you say come and follow
And I will if you lead
So recline at my table
As long as you need
You give love unconditional
Joy inexpressible
Peace in the midst of my fears
You give patience to speed
And a kindness we need
And a goodness to give with good cheer
You give faithfulness to me
And empower me to be
Faithful in return through my years
You make me gentle to those
Who I'd rather oppose
And control so my conscience is clear
He reclines at my table
With sinners and thieves
Sweet Jesus my savior
What can I give you but me
And you say come and follow
And I will if you lead
So recline at my table
As long as you need
But I can't
For holiness has kept me at a distance
Away from this man
If I could get a little closer I would
But there's no reason to go
