Polaroid

I found her in a polaroid
When she was just a little girl
Face painted with the cutest smile
And her eyes wide to the world
She grew up with a wildflower mind
And her head up in the clouds
Yes, she nearly drove me mad
With the way that she lived out loud

She closed her eyes and with her hands
She built a castle to rule the land
And deep inside I wish I had
The strength to be her man again

Cause she's a big girl now
Yeah she's a big girl now
And that photograph will have to be enough
Because like it or not, little girls always grow up

Always focused on her big dreams
And a man to stand beside her
And God knows that wasn't me
And there's things I wish I could remember
She took me out to the beach one night
And said "Boy, are you coming along?
I'll be damned if I ever slow."
I said "Girl, I'm not that strong."

She closed her eyes, without a tear
She threw away her pain and fears
And deep inside, yeah I could hear
Her searching heart pounding so true and so clear

Cause she's a big girl now
Yeah she's a big girl now
And that photograph will have to be enough
Because like it or not, little girls always grow up

She hit the road across the promised land
No looking back, no don't give it a chance
And I'll sit back and wonder where she is
With a polaroid in my hand

Cause she's a big girl now
Yeah she's a big girl now
And that photograph will have to be enough
Because like it or not, little girls always grow up
Little girls always grow up
