The Lady of Light
To my Lady of Light
Here at last do I present this gift to you
Which you have conceived within me
The melody that was born from the quiet
In the whispered winds of my heart
The song which called to me in the night
And shone it's light on my way
And showed me that which I thought
Would never be mine
You have beckoned me here
And so this melody grew within me
In vain I have struggled to bury it
For how can I deny that which my heart
Pleads for with every breath?
Perhaps I should have let it stay there
To let it be known only unto me
To let it live out its days alone, in the dark
Until it has forgotten itself and its purpose
Even forgetting the face of its own mother
But how could this be its story?
For there is no glory in the veiled light
And so the world will hear how I felt
And know what you stirred in me
O how the sand runs from my hands
O how the sun sets on my journey
Behind these shadowy hills it has passed
And fallen from grace
In the end I have seen you for who you are
Your strength was a veneer
These stone walls gird a stone heart
And as a frightened hound you'd snarl
At those who would dare to come close
Even at those who sought to see you free
You could not let go of that which held you
And so I saw your light fade
As a flickering star in the evening
Softly sounding the call you took back
For what might have been
For what never was
For a love half given
They ask your name, and who you are
"Where has she gone?"
"What happened to her?"
She died
I will remember you
My Lady of Light
Not as you are now
But for who you were
Who you were to me
The light which captivated me
And showed me a glimpse of life
A life worth living, a life worth holding
A life where perhaps one day
I would be held in the arms of one
Who would have me, and call me hers
As she is mine
Farewell my Lady of Light
I have wished you joy
From the moment I saw you
May peace find you in this life
And stay with you for all your days
Farewell
With love
