A Warm Numbness

Sadness is a warm numbness
Followed swiftly by dark thoughts drooling from dumb lips
Dessicated our gaunt white ghosts strive for something to feel nothing
As if what we've been feeling all along was something

We're all recovering from some great tragedy
No matter how prosperous, resilient, or normal we're supposed to pretend to be
Sometimes it's been years and the scars are still visible
And maybe decades will fade and we will still be miserable

But we grow wealthy in spirit despite our souls weighed down by heavy hearts
And we will bear witness to blazes before they snuff out our sparks
Great legacies born from the ashes of our blood
Built from the bones, the stones, and the sinew that they filtered from the mud

A wise man once told me that happiness is just a smile
But not all smiles are happy cus we all struggle to feel it once in a while
So happy trails to the happy campers
And calm white seas to the sailors
Cus we're all lost in our own endeavors

But though we're all lost
We're all lost
All lost together

Though we're all lost
We're all lost
All lost together

Though we're all lost
We're all lost
All lost together
Though we're all lost
We'll find our way back together
