This Way of Life

The rain
Never seems to fall on us
The price of hay is up
And the future's goin down
Them old men
At the feed store spittin' snuff
Say it's never been this tough
If they were me they'd move to town
They say there ain't no use in tryin'
They think our way of life is dyin'

Go ahead and carve the headstone, boys
And write your eulogy
And plan yourselves a funeral, but don't be expecting me
'Cause as long as I'm still breathing and my blood is flowing red
Our way of life ain't dead

There's a whole lot more out there like me
North to south from Sea to Sea
You thinkin' we're all gonna fold and quit?
You better quit thinking 'cause you don't know shit
A hundred years of roots run deep
Times will change but so will we
Feeding them five-weights, slingin' that rope
Can't quit now because it's all we know

So go ahead and carve the headstone
trow a farewell party too
But please don't be expecting us 'cause we've got work to do
Yea as long as we're still breathing and our blood is flowing red
Our way of life ain't dead
