Twice Around Again

When she asked if I knew her intentions
I could have responded in kind
'Cept I knew that I'd lost her affections
Somewhere along the line
And despite my own speculations
I never could understand why
That in light of her own instigations
Still it all just passed me by
But she needs no invitation
To lie inside my skin
And despite my reservations
She still found her way in

With her in her sophistication
Her pearls, so plain to see
It was her predisposition
But wasn't so for me
I gave into consideration
The thoughts that played on my mind
Til giving my affirmation
That's plagued me til this time
And though my apprehension
Shook me so within
I gave my congratulations
And cast it in the wind

And us in our joint aspirations
Both bound together it seemed
It transpired in conversations
There were those who disagreed
Appearing like some apparition
Always just out of sight
As if to bring some salvation
Yet leaving us behind
Me in my contemplations
I wondered could it be
Though my hesitation
Made me too blind to see

In my appreciations
I thought of it as nothing
Would it take much investigation
To see what's in the wings
Still taking commiserations
Then unsure of the fall
Was it only my imagination
It was ever there at all
And soon our celebrations
Had soon but almost gone
I needed no explanation
And was provided none

Struck down by false accusations
I struggled against it in vain
Me in my desperation
Thought it could reverse again
Til fate I bound resignation
When finally I heard
It remains my recollection
Never such thing occurred
It remains my due conviction
That lasts from day to day
She was my inspiration
Despite our separate ways
