Cross Creek Road - Commentary

Sheryl Crow has a new album called "Threads"
And it's actually available on CD and digital
Plus she has put together a vinyl collection
And this is one song that has two different versions
Depending on which version of the album you buy
If you get the vinyl release, she is singing with Margo Price and Neil Young
And on the digital and CD release, Sheryl is singing
Cross Creek Road with Lucas Nelson and Neil
So Sheryl, tell me about Cross Creek Road

Cross Creek Road actually is a song that I wrote with my buddy Jeff
About my old farm which was outside of Nashville
And represent a lot of things to me
It represented my real search for peace in my life
It represents, that farm represents a lot of transitions for me
I came there when I was newly diagnosed with breast cancer
I came there when I was done with treatment

I came there to make my first record after that
When I brought my three month old home
It just had a lot of emotional connection for me
And so I asked Don Henley to sing on the record
Mainly because he was very instrumental in my getting a record deal back in 1989 or 90
And I've known him for many years
He's been there through thick and thin for me

And we asked Neil Young to play the guitar parts on it
Because the song sounds like him
And because I've gotten to know him through the years
He's been a- even before I knew him
He's just a monumental inspiration for me
And asked him to be a part of the record
After having done a lot of the Bridge School benefits

In the end, shortly after recording it
I met and became friends with Margo Price
Who I feel like is just a really unique and authentic artist
But also a real throwback
You know she's out there on the road
She reminds me of me, not artistically
But how we were in the early days

Where we just loved playing and getting out there and communicating
And having relationship with the audiences
Just like all the artists that I've loved started out
Out there playing and touring and being a troubadour
So all those people on this track
I guess really take me back to Cross Creek

You'll find this song on Sheryl's new album, Threads
Which is available now to stream, download, or buy wherever music is sold
It's called Cross Creek Road on Big Machine Radio
