Fortescque Bay

January 11th
You helped me push my weight off of the shore
You kissed me on the beach of Fortescque Bay
And I told you I'm coming back for more
Load me up in a one-man kayak
I turned to you with our son in your hands
And as I paddled through the water
I knew it'd be a month 'till land

Now I have it all mapped out
Look at me as I fade in and out of focus
I will make it home somehow
Off of Fortescque Bay as we swell up with emotion

When I catch you in New Zealand
I know the rest will be unsaid
50 Knots out now from inland
Paddling inside my makeshift bed
I catch your face from in the ocean
Vicki nicks me wading the sea
And such a calming wave of emotion
Resonates from you to me

When I send a message home
I know you are there alone, eagerly waiting
And if I make it back alone
The future looks like you and me pushing daisies
