Crystal Ball

Today a package arrived
A crystal ball is what I opened up
With a note stuck to the top
It said rub it to foresee your luck

I give a tickle and was sucked through the middle
Of some smoke and mist and swoohshy noise
I ended up at our place last night
I heard a message from your inner voice

She said

Our love is like the fridge light
It goes off when you close the door
And I said
But like our fridge at night
I'm only there because I want more
She said
You don't care about the temperature
Or defrosting the freezer box
I said
Maybe this analogy's spent
She said the point remains we're deadlocked

The next morning I awake
To find the paper by my bedside
Flick through the daily news
Nothing but horoscopes side to side

A load of shit I have to admit despite this
Every one spoke the same words
They said
The crystal ball with tales tall
You'd be a fool to ignore advice that's left unheard

Our love is like the fridge light
It goes off when you close the door
And I said
But like our fridge at night,
I'm only there because I want more
She said
You don't care about the temperature
Or defrosting the freezer box
I said
Maybe this analogy's spent
She said the point remains we're deadlocked

That evening I'm run down
I need something to clear my head
Lets go to dinner tonight
She says I'll wear my favourite red dress

Before long I return to form
I will not let myself be played by tricks
And I know deep down inside that
We are fresh and new and destined

The meal's over and we've had dessert
A fortune cookie falls onto my lap
I split it open and a message falls out
It said if you're so convinced why you singing this song?

Our love is like the fridge light
It goes off when you close the door
And I said
But like our fridge at night,
I'm only there because I want more
She said
You don't care about the temperature
Or defrosting the freezer box
I said
Maybe this analogy's spent
She said the point remains we're deadlocked
