Two Train Thoughts

Further west
The fields
Were stiff with frost
The sun is higher now
And we speed on

An hour from now
Further east
Winter fades
Back to fall
The sun is high
Crunch retreats
White to green

When I saw patches
Of the year's first snow
I soon imagined
Months from now
Bhe blackened piles of ice
That try to hold back spring

A song in two-part harmony
Then a song in three
Each voice holds its own
And interweaves
A friend
As good as good can be
Holds no guarantee
Mutual and unconditionally free

Tosses through
A thick haze
Two train thoughts
And a throbbing
Pressure lurking
Outside my mind
Inside my sense

A song
In two-part harmony
Then a song in three
Each voice holds its own
And interweaves
A friend
As good as good can be
Holds no guarantee
Mutual and unconditionally free

Togetherness
Requires effort
Togetherness comes
Each from each
Makes more music
Than its parts
So beautifully
It has to cease
