It Was the Baby

Joseph and Mary came to Bethlehem
They needed a place to stay
The inn was busy and had no room
So they were turned away
Mary was about to give birth to her child
She was weary and oh so weak
God had prepared a stable that night
A humble place so meek

Only in a humble heart will our Lord abide
He won't come inside
A heart filled with pride

Maybe just maybe
It was the baby
Who turned the inn away
Maybe just maybe
It was the baby
Who chose the stable that day

The guests at the inn were all asleep
Warm by a cozy fire
While lowly shepherds watching their sheep
Witnessed a heavenly choir
Camels and donkeys heard the Baby's cry
Wise men sought the King
Folks at the inn just slept through the night
Never noticed a thing

They never even knew what they had missed on that night
The blazing starlight
The angels so bright

Maybe just maybe
It was the baby
Who turned the inn away
Maybe just maybe
It was the baby
Who chose the stable that day

Busy lives and comforts
Still lead the world astray
But God still leads the humble
And teaches them His way

Maybe just maybe
It was the baby
Who turned the inn away
Maybe just maybe
It was the baby
Who chose the stable that day
