8th Grade
I barely remember the 8th grade
I barely remember the 8th grade
Mom got a heart attack
Carried around a suicide note in my backpack
Sat in the back of class
Never said a word
Smoked so much weed
Ronnie got a nose bleed
What happened to the kid with the sunshine soul
The schoolyard crew with the Angel glow
Eddie went rat-tat-tat on the gasket
We stole the car fast, went speeding through Queens
Like two boys searching for a different century
Like a lost kid afraid the earth would swallow me
And the Smiths went turn, turn, turn on the radio
Music blasting loud, like we're the rock & roll show
Fist in my chest went boom boom boom
Got a text from grandma will you be home soon
Listen to sun as it beats down low, listen to the heart as it go go goes
Listen to drum as it hits some more, listen to the world as it turns real slow
We caught a horror movie on the big screen
You met me and Eddie by the snack machine, nice to see you Kiki
Got the biggest bag of popcorn we'd ever seen
You grabbed my hand fast, before the movie screened
Got lost in your eyes like a storm in the ocean
You laughed so sweet, you had my all shook then
Kiki teach me how to turn this pain into poetry
How to find beauty in this mayhem story
You grabbed me so close under the streetlight
Teach me slow down, one step at a time right
I barely remember the 8th grade
Mom got a heart attack
Carried around a suicide note in my backpack
Sat in the back of class
Never said a word
Smoked so much weed
Ronnie got a nose bleed
What happened to the kid with the sunshine soul
