Tidal Wave

To everybody listening, there is nothing you can say
The tidal wave is coming, it will get ya anyway
You might be surprised when I say I'm not afraid
I've been learning how to swim just to watch this whole parade
Now please don't fall in panic and don't you run away
There are many things I need to say to those who ruined our day

It all started many years ago when they discovered oil
What a fortune you could make drilling up the soil
And so you built your drills and even bigger wells
You ate what could be eaten and then threw away the shells
Suddenly the world turned into a poker game
And all of you were playing without any trace of shame

The twenties filled your bellies and let people starve to death
Yet soothing words kept coming out of your Martini's breath
You said "can't you see our business has made you drive your cars?"
And then came back to your game smoking dozens of cigars
And thanks to politicians who knew better how to preach
You made everyone feel grateful to you for being so rich

After peace was made there was nothing left to hide
You sat among the winners and you were filled with pride
But then you realized you could make a whole lot more
If maybe for some reason you could start another war
So live on television you guys blew a desert storm
Over many foreign countries you decided to reform

Then when was it? Twelve years ago? your castle fell again
Funny how the reasons were the same ones of back then
When you built it up too much and you didn't check the base
Eighty years later, there it is, the same disgrace
And what did you say this time to those who lost their wage?
We're sorry folks but we are broke, we cannot help your rage

So here we are now, but this time you won't escape
Your money will not save your skin, yes you can gape
You messed it up so bad that you don't know who to blame
But we know it was your fault and we also know your name
The only consolation about this tidal wave
Is that you won't have the chance to spend your money in your grave
