Quittin'time

I'll start working on the cabinets this morning
That oughta keep me busy till noon
Then at lunch I'll shoot the bull with all the other guys
And I won't have to think about going home too soon
Then I'll get all the doors hung by this evening
I know that means again I'm working late
Then when it's too dark to see I'll pack up all my tools
And slowly climb back in my truck and wait
For that part of life by now I've come to hate

Quitting time used to be the best part of my day
But that was all before you went away
And left me here not knowing what to do
Now quitting time means I've got to walk back through that door
Knowing there's just nothing for me there anymore
Except trying to face quitting time without you

If I'd have known that I'd outlive your loving
I'd have taken so much better care of it
I'd have held on so much stronger
And listened so much longer
I'd have never let your heart learn how to quit
If there's one thing I never wanted this is it
