Right the Nation

We have history
Of breaking people down and gagging all the bound
Centuries gone by
No more tears left to cry for this cultural genocide
You sit upon your throne of skulls and bones
Our sickness sold
We all have equal say
But last time I checked it certainly didn't look that way

Don't you rain on my parade
And stack the odds until decay
Now grab the reins
And take us to the destination
Right the nation

I don't want to lecture but next time
Ask someone their name before shoving them in jail
Even the streets aren't safe
For a woman walking in daylight
Or for a simple man who wasn't white
He could have gone home to his father
But he was killed and made into a martyr
And she was just starting out her story
But her novel was shut too early
Because somebody judged a book by its cover
Ripped it up and tried to falsify the chronicle

One bad apple to tarnish the bushel
Too many times it ends in murder
Three people there and no one did a damn thing
Four hundred casualties flooding the Red Sea
Open up your ears and we can start to heal
It won't erase the scars but we can start to feel
It's not about me and it's not about you
It's about the ones who stood face to face with a noose
(About the ones who stood face to face with a noose)
But if you won't let us breathe

Don't you rain on my parade
And stack the odds until decay
Now grab the reins and take us to the destination
It's not about me and it's not about you
It's about the ones who stood face to face with a noose
Open up your ears and we can start to heal
It won't erase the scars but we can start to feel

Destination
Destination
Destination
Right the Nation
