I Won't Go Out (Today)

The universe came to my doorstep today
Hair all askew, spent the whole night awake,
I let them inside to get out of the rain
Gave them some warm coffee asked if they were okay

They said don't go out today
I've made a big mistake
I broke what i cannot unbreak, and I know it's not fair
There's nothing that i can do to repair
What awaits you out there

Outside my window the rain came down hard
And all the flamingos fell down in my yard
With a sad little sigh, my poor car wouldn't start
Umbrella gave in to the wind, fell apart

I won't go out today
Who knows what else awaits
The universe takes and they take and the world is unfair
What's broken is more than I think I can bear
I'll just wait it out here.

The universe and I curled up on my couch
Read books and drank coffee and didn't go out
When I had to get up, they carried me around
When the universe laughs, it's a beautiful sound

They said
Don't go out today
I've made a big mistake
I took all there was I could take, but it's
Safe in my hands
And I do have a plan
Tomorrow try again.

I asked them why they'd made my world fall apart
Even just for the day, made everything so hard
They said sometimes I watch you, so brave and so smart,
And I'm afraid you'll forget just how human you are
I'm afraid I'll get lost in your big human heart
Your big, human heart
Your big, human
