Elevator Music (lonely inbetween pt2)

From his basement down in New York, you hardly saw him leave
He was a stranger so there was no love left to receive
But one day he heard there was a project in town
That was gonna change the world, so he forgot about his frown

He saw the construction in the street, "102 stories" they said on his half-broken radio
He looked at the height and thought "that's a lotta floors mhmm"
So he lay down his pen and his paper, with his finished score staring proudly back
And he sent it away and just like that it was gone

The musicians came one by one to see the man who hadn't left his house
And play his masterpiece. Violins, Percussion, they all joined in
And when they reached the end he felt the first step to pride within
2 months later they cut the tape and the doors were flung open

The people riding the elevator were unaware of the genius
Of the sounds they were hearing. They looked at the height and thought "that's pretty cool I guess"
But one day the person riding the floors was the man who hadn't left his house
Only now he's on stage with no crowd and he said "Mum and Dad are you proud?"

He sat with his legs crossed, all 102 floors
To listen to his creation as he sank into the floor
He felt a weight lift off his shoulders and he knew he was happy
He was an artist and so his work went mostly unseen
There was happiness in being the Lonely Inbetween
He sat there and cried tears of joy until the doors opened with a short ping
