In the Morning

You're far too hard on yourself
When you look in the mirror
Because every time your eyes meet mine
Everything is so much clearer
And I don't understand what to do or say
To make you feel any better
So I sit here undecided
While I'm writing you this letter

And you'll try to deny it but you're wrong
Because I can't take my eyes off your sleeping smile

In the morning, when I wake up
And the sun is shining on your face
Before the makeup and the pretty clothes
Before your hair is done
I can see you sleeping soundly
You lay there just like you were made
And you don't know how beautiful you are
How beautiful you are to me

So maybe if I described it in some poetic way
I could elicit some reaction
The summer blue sky and the green earth have nothing on you, honey
But still I sense dissatisfaction
And I've never been so frustrated
Every day I tell you that you've made it
But you're still unreceptive
So tell me what am I supposed to do
I need to find a better way to get through to you
So I wrote this melody to give you some perspective

If there's a doubt left in your head then you're so wrong
Because I can't take my eyes off your sleeping smile

In the morning, when I wake up
And the sun is shining on your face
Before the makeup and the pretty clothes
Before your hair is done
I can see you sleeping soundly
You lay there just like you were made
And you don't know how beautiful you are
How beautiful you are to me

If only I could make you see
Everything you mean to me
If only I could open up your mind
And make you see yourself through my eyes
In the light of every sunrise

In the morning, when I wake up
And the sun is shining on your face
Before the makeup and the pretty clothes
Before your hair is done
I can see you sleeping soundly
You lay there just like you were made
And you don't know how beautiful you are
How beautiful you are to me
