Dawn

In the middle of the winter
A mother tried to sing her baby a happy song
With a war in between and a husband unseen
She was sad and she didn't feel too strong
She sang to the child
The little girl smiled
Though the cold night seemed so very long
She had it in her head a seer once said
It's the darkest it gets just before the dawn
Just before the dawn

So bring the dawn
Turn the new day beautiful and golden again
Lay down the good seed over the land
And sing a new season in
Tear down the screen
Cut the net and clear the spider web out
Lay down the arms now so out of hand
And bring a new reason in
Let the brand new day begin

In the middle of the earth was a presence and a worth
That actually belonged to everyone
So many went blind in the heart and the mind
Lusting to worship as the only ones
The lines were drawn in the noon day sun
And the blood ran oily red across the floor
The barons give nothing
The soldiers give something
And a father gives everything and more
Everything and more
Thank you Captain

So bring the dawn
Turn the new day beautiful and golden again
Lay down the good seed over the land
And sing a new season in
Tear down the screen
Cut the net and clear the spider web out
Lay down the arms now so out of hand
And bring a new season in
Let the brand new day begin
Let the brand new day begin
Let the brand new day begin

In the middle of the winter
A mother tried to sing her baby a happy song
A war in-between
A husband unseen
She was sad and she didn't feel too strong
Still she sang to the child and the little girl smiled
Though the cold night seemed so very long
She had it in her head Crosby once said
It's the darkest it gets just before the dawn
Just before the dawn
