The Day the Aliens Landed

Crazy Frankie Gordon
Everybody knew him well
Hung around the alley
Beside the old motel
Sometimes he'd engage you
If you stopped in for a beer
Said that they'd be here within the year

Of course no one believed him
He was crazy after all
Saying they'd be landing
On the fill out by the mall
Sometimes I would look him
In his eye and I could swear
There wasn't just an acid fried lunatic in there

I used to look up at the starry sky at night
I used to wonder if there could be other life

But Father Brown was adamant
No way it could be true
He said I'd stop these sinful fantasies if I were you
Look at Frankie Gordon boy and what it's done to him
His chance to get to heaven is now slim

The following summer
They took old Frankie in
Saying he'd be better
Served at Wellington
Locked him in padded cell with TV and a chair
See my son said Father Brown
He's found his hell in there

I used to look up at the starry sky at night
I used to wonder if there could be other life

The day the aliens landed I was half asleep in bed
I heard a massive rumbling explode just overhead
The mothership flew over I went running through the yard
Crying like a moron as I got into the car

Did you ever look up at the starry sky at night?
Did you ever wonder if there could be other life?

Father Brown drove up with his constituents in hand
He bore the look of someone who could never understand
Frankie stood upon the fill looking right at me
His sanitarium door had not been opened by a key

It was just as I'd imagined
When I was a child
Frank looked back at us for just a moment and he smiled
Disappeared into their ship and up into the sky
Didn't even have to say goodbye

Oh Father
He's flying far away
Oh Father
He's flying far away
Oh Father
He's flying far away
Oh Father
He's flying far away
Oh Father
He's flying far away
Oh Father
He's flying far away
Oh Father
Oh Father
Oh Father
Oh Father
He's flying far away
Oh Father
Oh Father
