It Won't Be Long

I told a story
It began and then it ended
And in the middle you were hanging by a thread
Oh I could tell that you knew what was going to happen
So I change course and turn the plot right on its head
There was a murder in a fair and lots of money
A girl so beautiful they though that she was dim
Oh I could see it in your eyes
You thought it be her in disguise
But I gotcha 'cause it was always him

It won't be long
Before we're gone
There may be no one to remember
In the meanwhile
I'm angling to make you smile
And if I do my work is done

I told the story did not know where it was going
And not to boast but it was off to a great star
It was a while before I noticed you were crying
Who doesn't love a hero with a broken heart
In the nick of time the loose ends tied up very neatly
Count myself lucky that it made sense in the end
Some of my other stories won't
End on such a happy note
But I'll make it, so as long as we are friends
It won't be long
Before we're gone
There may be no one to remember
In the meanwhile
I'm angling to make you smile
And if I do my work is done
And if I do my work is done
