A Breath Over the Mountain Pass

The road downhill is the path of naught
Soaked by the blood of failures
In search of more, a trail twisted and fraught

The cairns that mark the paths of old
Burn in the sunlight
They weigh the cost of mans resolve
Scarring the mountain

Graves adorn the sodden ground
They litter the foothills
Serve as a warning for those who've felt

A breath over the mountain pass
To bring you to the dark
A gentle palm in shroud of light
To bring you to the dark, below

The cairns that mark the paths of old
Burn in the sunlight, awaiting the cold
They weigh the cost of mans resolve
Scarring the mountain by baring your soul

Trace the stones with prayer and psalm
And draw their strength through faith and alms
Spill the blood of earth's divine and
Soak your wounds in hallowed brine

A breath over the the mountain pass
To bring you down to the dark below

Into the never ending night, where unseen rivers flow
All you've ever loved has never come to pass
Hold on to your fractured light, reap what you have sown
May you keep your heart close

The light no longer touches your skin
Retreat towards the dark within
The light no longer touching your skin
Retreat towards the dark within
