The Stolen Identity Blues

Well I went to the store to buy me some shoes
But the clerk at the counter gave me some news
Your card's been rejected, she said with a sigh
I couldn't get those shoes, I just said goodbye
Now there's holes in the soles of my old shoes
And my feet are burnin' from a blister or two

I went to the bank to cash me a check
But my account was closed, my credit was wrecked
How can that be? I just put money in
They said, you'd better go and see the police, my friend
I was shakin' my head as I was walkin' out
My feet still hurt and my head full of doubt

So I went to the station, and they told me this tale
Your identity's been stolen and there's no paper trail
Some hacker has your money, and your good name too
Your credit score's wrecked and your loans are through
Just sat there stunned with my jaw hangin' down
You know I left that place with a big 'ole frown

I guess I'm a ghost I can't prove who I am
Now I find myself in a big 'ole jam
When your life depends on a big database
And that data gets hacked, you'll be lost with no trace

Some day that hacker's gonna get paid back
His computer's gonna crash from a virus attack
In the mean-time I still need me some shoes
I've got a bad 'ole case of those stolen identity blues
