Family Land

Lonesome coyote echoes in the early mornin' wind
Rifle on my shoulder, cool breeze upon my skin
I shot my first whitetail in this same old Sudan field
But today I wait and slowly lay for a different kind of kill

They flew me back from Fallujah, with shrapnel in my head
Paw came down with cancer and he ain't too far from dead
We've payed our shares of blood and gold but the tax man still wants more
They coming for the land today but they don't know what's in store

Mama told me flesh and blood is not what I'm to fight
But if this goes the way I plan I'll see her by tonight
Father please forgive me for this blood shed at my hands
But you lived for our family
And this is Family Land

Mama died when I was young, it left just me and Paw
We poured our hearts into this place until my duty called
I always planned to come back, find a wife and raise some kids
I ain't gonna let them take what they sent me to defend

Mama told me flesh and blood is not what I'm to fight
But if this goes the way I plan I'll see her by tonight
Father please forgive me for this blood shed at my hands
But you lived for our family
And this here's Family Land
