In Another Life

For years, this brick building has blended into the backdrop of my drive every morning
A set piece on the same block as my best friend lives came to my attention last night
Tonight I went in, and I'm glad I did

The papers in my pocket were wearing thin from all the times I checked
That I still had them
(And the raindrops seeping in)
I thought of other situations that had seemed so foreign, yet had welcomed me in
And wondered: "All I've missed..."

Oh, other lives are making something more out of feelings most of us ignore
If only place and time had struck a chord
Would I still be standing here; one step from your world?

I'd love to take one more step forward
I'd love to take one more step forward
But all I see is another open door that in another life I will explore
Another open door that in another life I will explore
Another open door that in another life I will explore
