Gramma's Too Small Pajamas

Every year on Christmas eve
Underneath the Christmas tree
In re-used boxes from JC Penney
Packages with all our names
Every one wrapped just the same
In paper she's had since the 70's

All the children gather round
As Gramma passes gifts around
Now everybody open them at once
We all try to look excited
Though we know just what's inside
My oh my won't we be surprised

Mom and dad can hardly wait
For our humiliating fate
Don't even try to hide their wicked smiles
We tear and tear and tear away
She must have used a mile of tape!
But before we can get to what's inside

She shakes her head, she slaps her knee
And in a flustered voice decrees
Oh, It's just pajamas!

Gramma's too small pajamas!
Gramma's too small pajamas!
Christmas tradition all our own
I can't wait til I'm too grown
For Gramma's too small pajamas

Now go upstairs and try them on!
Do we really have to mom?
Slowly and begrudgingly we go
Gramma never seems to know
In a year how much we grow
We pull and tug, wiggle, yank and squeeze

My collar stuck over my ear
My face is red but not from cheer
Sleeves so tight my hands are turning blue
Half my belly hanging out
Like Santa Clause after his route
Pants reach down barely past my knees

We all hang our heads in shame
Everybody dressed the same
Down the stairs and laughter fills the room
Now gather round the Christmas tree
For photos we hope noone will see
In Gramma's too small pajamas!

Another year another pair,
That we will not ever wear
Gramma's too small pajamas

Gramma's too small pajamas!
Gramma's too small pajamas!
Christmas tradition all our own
I can't wait til I'm too grown
For Gramma's too small pajamas

What will we all receive next year?
Well we all know but to be clear
It's Gramma's too small pajamas!
