Free As A Jay

I've walked so far following Western stars
To the East at my back a new sun dawns
I found myself; he had naught to say
Seems he'd forsaken words to be free as a jay

At the plaque on the ruined walls
It said Hugh Garth was a hermit for Christ and more
He brought peace to the lepers who'd come
But now God's dead, to be Hugh Garth what could I have done?

There must be more I can do to be saved
That's more than fair-trade bananas. They're still our slaves
There's nothing left to turn my back on
I've forsaken everything now I'm without God

I've walked so far carrying my guitar
Thanks who put it together, wherever you are
I found myself in a song I could play
I won't speak anymore, I'll be free as a jay
