Perfect Person

She wondered if it really was her in the mirror
Or was it some paid actor on a screen
If the body looking back at me is really not my own
Then I hope she's getting paid quite a lot

She tells a stupid joke
And everybody laughs
Were they laughing at the joke
Or at her

The things that people do
To move up on the social pyramid
I'm okay
If I'm defaulted at the bottom
But am I okay
You never really ask
Cuz right now I'm wearing my happy mask

She's not perfect
She is flawed
And she feels like she's a fraud
She doesn't have time
She doesn't have money
And she doesn't think she's funny

She writes a lot of songs
And some people hum the tune
But yet the thing that she's best known for
Is the perfect person that she knows she's not

Cuz she is hanging on by a thread
And it's not made of spider silk
Cuz the strongest material in the world
Is her tears

Cuz all her money is spent
On her friends she cares about a lot
And she tells them not to pay her back

But then she buys one thing for herself
That she's wanted for a while
And now she has zero dollars
In the jar

Cuz she's not one to be mean
She does not want to be seen
She is not one to boast
The nice people get hurt the most

And she likes the rain
It falls down too
When it feels pretty heavy
But she hides all her emotions
Cuz she's the perfect person that she knows she's not

Each snowflake is different
But are the popular girls really that different
When they all wear the same shoes and laugh the same

They say music is my thing
I hide my hands behind rings
Because I bruised and I'm blistered
Just from writing all these songs

Maybe I'm not what you thought
Cuz I'm guessing that I'm not
I am quiet
An unheard voice
I'm not loud enough to yell

I'm not just a listener
I wanna talk
But they say go take a walk
They don't wanna hear it
Because they don't feel it
So they do not understand
If you hear this just know
Your feelings are valid even though
Society's standards get in the way
And there is no perfect person
