Demonic Retaliation
Demonic retaliation
The number of the beast
First came the thunder, then torrents of rain
The darkness in the sky was a sign of certain pain
The earth beneath us trembled and we swore we heard its voice
"You have broken your oath!"
Amidst all the noise
The stranger was not moved by fear
"Demon!" he shouted toward the mount
"Be gone from here!"
We told him to recant, to kneel, and show respect
But he stood firm in the name of his Christ
The beast had no effect
The winds howled louder still
The mud began to slide
Toward our homes at rapid speed
Like the crashing of the tide
With arms outstretched toward the mount
He shouted once again
"In the name of Christ, leave this place and never come again!"
At these words, thunder pealed and lightning slashed the sky
The mud slide's movement came to a gentle crawl
Our cries of fear were silenced
At the power of his God
That even this stranger may have power over the beast's rage
To calm the torrent and wave of earth
All the priests came running with daggers at their sides
"The day you leave, you'll doom us
For the beast shall return to have his share of blood
For all your transgressions
If you continue, you must be sacrificed
Do you really wish our blood upon your hands
If you give your life, we may be spared from death
We've prepared the dais according to the beast's number
If you choose not to comply, we will take your life by force."
