Side of the Fence

There's a fence dividing us
If only in our minds
We're more alike than you may care ever to admit
Not opposite
Do we not bleed the same blood
Do we not want to feel like we're loved
We're both going to live, both gonna die, no matter how hard we try
To cheat death

As I grow old, I want to try to look look outside of myself
When I do, I see that we're both on the same
Side of the fence

We both need water and food to survive
A roof overhead to stay alive
But that doesn't mean I'll take it from you
Just because I need it to
Yeah, I need it to

We both want freedom and harmony
Friendship, peace, security
So why do we hate and why do fight in the darkness of the night

As I grow old, I want to try to look look outside of myself
When I do, I see that we're both on the same
Side of the fence

Now maybe I'm naive, but I want to still believe
We can overcome our differences
And live in peace

When I think of the times I feel so all alone
I look at you and see it too
Yeah, we're both on the same, both on the same, both on the same
Side of the fence
Side of the fence
Side of the fence
