Hopeful Train Ride Home

On this hopeful train ride home
The scenery speeds on past
As I ponder my good memories
And the days that flew too fast

Like idle boxcars sitting
On abandoned railroad tracks
I recall my life's graffiti
From the very front to back

Now I've come full circle
To where sweet memories lie
I think of those who love me still
And what I left behind
I've finally been awakened
By the lessons of the road
As I gaze at the horizon
On my hopeful train ride home

Like a hundred trestle scribbles
My head knows all the facts
But at times it's still a riddle
How my heart can stay on track

Through train windows there's a field
Where a thousand blackbirds fly
Performing perfect pantomime
In their coordinated sky
They pay no attention
To how far I've come alone
As I gaze at the horizon
On my hopeful train ride home

I gaze at the horizon
On my hopeful train ride home
On my hopeful train ride home
