I Had A Dream

I once had a dream that this was all a terrible misunderstanding
Together again
This was even worse than that time that I dreamt I won the lottery
And I remember again
I sprang out of bed and I said in my head, I'll fix the world and all of our problems
With these fists full of socks
I may never have a lot of money
And all the socks in the world can't help me now

I'd love to believe that this was all a terrible misunderstanding
But never again
It's amazing what the brain will do to mend that which it does not understand
Please do not make pretend
Now I must stay awake 'cause I can't take another dream
There's no more comfort left in sleep for me

And so it goes on

I try to say goodbye
I try to let you go
But inside of me there will always be
That stubborn part that says
This can't be so
