A Plague On All Our Houses

It seems that Mother Nature has decided that its time
To remind us that our planet is only borrowed for a while
As a plague on all our houses brings the world down to its knees
We contemplate our shared fragility

Our keyboards give a voice to almost everyone it seems
But far too many love to push their hatred on our screens
So many flaws of mankind stand so proudly on parade
And vice pretends it's virtue, as it signals its charade

A split from left to right is where the straw man reigns supreme
Confirmation bias is the only thing that's seen
As validation for a stance made over shaky ground
Where businesses and statues are pulled down

Our world is one where rational and reason
And inconvenient truths are seen as treason
And cherry picked opinions flow like water they can't hold
Too many love pretending that they know more than they know

Conspiracies abound in this misinformation age
Assertions pose as facts, which lie forgotten in the shade
And if your common sense prevents you travelling down this road
You'll know the emperor's there without his clothes

We claim that our democracy is something we hold dear
But then we pick and choose the votes to which we will adhere
And the media fuelled hatred that just goes from bad to worse
Makes all our high tech progress seem a well-intentioned curse

Our world is one where rational and reason
And inconvenient truths are seen as treason
And cherry picked opinions pass for wisdom from on high
A plague on all our houses can't begin to stem the tide

Our world is one where rational and reason
And inconvenient truths are seen as treason
And cherry picked opinions flow like water they can't hold
A plague on all our houses has begun to take its toll
A plague on all our houses should have unified us all
A plague on all our houses hasn't unified at all
A plague on all our houses where the world begins to stall
