New Virginia

These days when I'm sleeping, I'll dream about the day
The day that I might visit home again
Virginia if you read this, I'm going about my way
To find out if I'm sleeping or if I'm dead

In the attic I find dad's old coin case
And I put it with the nightmares on the shelf
I close the door, I lock it, I walk away
Will I look on it again

The floorboards creak their secrets to the empty wooden chairs
There's beauty in the cracks lining the walls
Virginia if I leave here, my only trace will be a prayer
Will anybody be here when it falls

In the kitchen are my brother's car keys
And I put them with the nightmares on the shelf
I close the door, I lock it, I walk away
Will I look on them again

The tables are lined with pictures
Where a family used to breathe
And these rooms, I think they're dreaming
Dreaming of what they used to mean

In my bedroom I find shattered mirrors
And I put them with the nightmares on the shelf
I close the door, I lock it, I walk away
Will I look on them again

I close the door, I lock it, I walk away
Will I see this place again
