Wanna See A Movie
Wanna see a movie
I'm a movie fanatic
Love watching movies
Not so much going to the movies
But the movies themselves, love em
But as I've gotten older
Some of the innocence has faded
And the movies feel different to me
As a writer I know
In order to sell a story there must be
Some sliver of truth
Something for the audience to grab on to
Identify with
But the truths I'm seeing
Are dark, twisted, numbing
That's it numbing, brain-numbing
Subliminal messages meant to control,
Prepare, take away the shock
Natural disaster movies mimic life
Just enough to blunt the reality
Disconnect us from the enormity of
Floods, levees breaking, fires, tornadoes
Blizzards, people freezing to death
Military movies prepare us for war
Be preemptive, serve your country
Destroy the enemy, there will always
Be an enemy, stock weapons
Guns, guns, guns, more guns, never enough guns
How about some comedy
To dull the pain
Cause we all know
Just a spoonful of sugar
Helps the medicine go down
Neighbors at odds
Animated films
With a hint of fun for the
Adult partaker
Or maybe romance
Love equals manipulation
With a dash of desperation
Toxic relationships lauded
But what's most disturbing
Are the films about our future
And what a dim future we're shown
Hunger becomes a game
Purging replaces justice
Classism divides people into factions
Cities fall, governments are overthrown
A meteor destroys the planet
Aliens destroy the planet
We destroy the planet
Disease rages mankind
Technology takes over and then
It's the end of the world as we know it
Make death captivating
And you camouflage the horror
Bridge collapses, concrete crushes cars
While others are pulled
Into a deep water kiss
But the hero survived
Ignore the hundreds thousands that died
They're collateral damage
Distraction, numbness, embrace it
People die every day
War is reality
Famine, poisoned water, global warming
So many things wrong with the world
It's too overwhelming
So we put on 3D glasses
To blur the lines between reality and fiction
Almost real enough to touch, experience
Don't worry though
It's just a movie
Just entertainment
We all want to be numbed
Sorry
I meant entertained
Hey, wanna see a movie
