Before My Eyes

I see a vision through this sadness
Remembering days of relentless madness
That were synthetically laced within the darkness
Which now resides before my eyes
Eyes that learned to fear tomorrows
Conveniently overlooking the cost once borrowed
Or had forgotten that neglect and sorrow
Would lead to horrifying scars upon the earth
Never thinking, or maybe lacking
The ability to see past that which was blinding
And blocking unpaved paths now winding
Around the mountain's face

That thing that lurks on the other side
Is a doorway to a state of mind
A cosmic portal which leads to a place where time
Is a thing one can rewind and stop if needed
But to tinker with the past and present
Or to shift the world and reverse its magnets
Would be no different than a tactic
That has been tried and tried before

But failed because this wheel of fortune
Was written in language no man has spoken
Or can comprehend that which is broken
Or why one lives or dies

And although sadness lingers in the air
And the dreams I dreamt won't disappear
For once I'm breathing and seeing clear
Realizing who I've hurt and why I was walking wounded
It's too soon to say if I've found my way
But the darkness is breaking and gamma rays
Are transforming thought along with night and day
And illuminating what the world had not yet shown me
And tears are falling from the heavens
Washing away mountains of dirt and granite
And overtaking valleys of guilt and torment
And reshaping what has passed and what is present
To witness that which is at hand
Leaves me to wonder where I stand
And who I was and what I am
And where I'll go, now that I have been awoken
