Babylon

We've come so far
There's not much left to reach
We've built these roofs up to the sky
Blood, sweat and tears - prices we paid
Minds like houses
And tools to understand ourselves
Countless colors
To visualize what can't be said

But as we've nearly scraped the firmament
We're tainted by the success, poisoned by the wealth

And when the night falls we lie here
Wide awake, listening
For rats behind the tapestries that don't exist

We should know better
That's not what we have planned
We've come so far but
This will be the end
This tower will stand here
For aeons to come
A stigma that shows us
How spoiled we've become

Writing books that fill libraries
Is not worth it if we never read

Each stone in every wall
Is a warning we can't ignore
Is a threat we have overcome
Is a lesson that must be taught
