The Ballad of LuLu Ash

When I was 9 I saw a man sleeping at my feet
His head on stone, his feet on grass, his heart no longer beat
So I put myself inside a box and hid away the key
And waited for the time you'd come along and set me free

When I was 12 I saw a man lying next to me
He said "my dear your words can hurt, so silent we must be"
So I put myself inside a box and hid away the key
And waited for the time you'd come along and set me free

At 39 I saw a woman sitting in a tree
Her hound it made a fearful noise as it sat upon my knee
So I put myself inside a box and hid away the key
And waited for the time you'd come along and set me free

I drove & drove for miles and time until I reached the sea
The crab, the fish a perfect catch for anyone to see
I begged for you to marry me, but you said it would never be
So I've put myself inside the box... and I've thrown away the key...
