In Everything, Under the Surface!
Well it's a rope swing from an oak tree on the side of a ravine
& it's an afternoon of laughter with good friends and bad coffee
& it's a frisbee or a football or the sharing of a song
& it's a walk on puddled pathways where we probably don't belong
I'm learning there's Beauty
& Purpose too
Sometimes when life gets hard I start wishing it away
I can't keep up with all this change
But when I look at the stars my perspective is forced to rearrange
& I'm learning my place
There's beauty n everything
Like the warm light of April with the flowers and the bees
When the earth is alive & she's bursting at the seams
& it's the clouds making faces at my bed of itchy grass
It's a day for racing sticks in the creek after class
& I'm learning there's Beauty
and Purpose too
But sometimes when life gets hard I start wishing it away
I can't keep up with all this change
But then I look at the stars & my perspective is forced to rearrange
& I'm learning my place
There's purpose under the surface
Well it's a new family of lovers on the carpet by the snow
& it's a place with sober judgment where I know that I can go
& it's a thought with which to wrestle, to question then submit
& it's a war on the fabrication of a nihilistic end
& I'm learning there's Beauty
and Purpose too
Oh but sometimes when life gets hard I start wishing it away
I can't keep up with all this change
But then I look at the stars & my perspective is forced to rearrange
& I'm learning my place
There's beauty in everything
& it's an afternoon of laughter with good friends and bad coffee
& it's a frisbee or a football or the sharing of a song
& it's a walk on puddled pathways where we probably don't belong
I'm learning there's Beauty
& Purpose too
Sometimes when life gets hard I start wishing it away
I can't keep up with all this change
But when I look at the stars my perspective is forced to rearrange
& I'm learning my place
There's beauty n everything

& I'm learning my place
There's beauty in everything
