Daddy never made much bank
Sometimes all that was on the plate,
Was beans and rice, man that's all we ate
We didn't have the name brand clothes,
We were always fashionably late
My daddy put us all in public schools,
The pastor told him that's a mistake
Fast forward just a few years,
Momma's working building our estate
Life was good there for a minute,
But our story would turn another page
I done lost count of all the moves,
We were always living in a different place
And just when things started getting good
We would have to make a major change
After a while things got better,
But every high comes with low days
Suicidal thoughts from my depression
Dropped my self esteem at a rapid rate
Went to college met my wifey there,
Surely this would make a change in my fate
But she was grieving from the death of
Husband one so our marriage had a major weight
Daddy's sickness didn't phase me, (Nah)
Don't you know I got killer faith?
But when my faith couldn't move his mountains,
I looked at God with a bitter hate
This is just a glimpse of my life,
Too much for a man to navigate
How can I see a good God
When the fire of life incinerates

Starting out from a young age,
Daddy gave me everything I needed
We didn't have all the best meals,
But I never had a day I wasn't eating
I didn't know that my clothes were outta style,
I was grateful that I had something
It wasn't till I heard the others clowning
That I started thinking that I had nothing
Yeah we moved many times in my life,
But God had always had a plan for us
I didn't understand it in the moment,
Looking back, it's clear He had His hand on us
Even when I was depressed,
He showed me I wasn't alone
When life didn't make sense, and I couldn't see it,
He showed me He's still on His throne (He's still on the throne)
As for wifey and I, yeah we had our struggles,
8 years later though, we're still together
Got us 4 kids, and a great life,
And I wouldn't leave her for another ever
And when my dad got super sick,
Yeah my faith took a super hit
But where I was weak, grace was super fit,
I repented, God forgave me super quick
You can look at life one way
And see the ways that it's not fair
Or see it all from a different lens,
And see how God has made Himself clear
He ain't ever gone, He ain't ever late,
He ain't ever wrong, He ain't ever fake
What He says He'll do, He will do His way,
It is for your good, and for His glory's sake
