Pyre

All our tears and words
Punctuated by the smoke of death
In the cold of dawn
The fire will take whatever's left

And the toll you pay
Whatever feeling can't be found
Are you happy now - or could you have ever been?
As our bodies get lowered into the ground

Our graves will weigh down on our backs as we carry them
For a lifetime till we find our final resting place in the fields
Like a warning to all those that will come here after us
Not to live cause this place will never yield

And so the sky turns red as they light the fire
A life lived just to give till there's nothing more that's left
And so I take my place upon the pyre
A foundation of embers is where I will find my rest

The light that shone here once before has become a myth
Dulled and faded away to be replaced by death's black flame
There's no more lessons here to learn just the numbing of us
From the endless years here fighting in vain

And so the sky turns red as they light the fire
A life lived just to give till there's nothing more that's left
And so I take my place upon the pyre
A foundation of embers is where I will find my rest

So I burn
