Rusted Hinges

Once I so loved to sing
A simple G to C would bring out the words in me
Would kind of set me free from what went on within
And I wasn't born no girl no Dionne or Joni or Dusty no Grace
I couldn't quite sore so freely
Broke my heart really just accepting the facts and my fate
Time look what it's done to me
Like famous faces of the silver screen gone
In the blink of an eye flash
The bright colours of life that are passing us bye

Now it's been so long since I sat down to write my song
My fingers are crinkled and crusty
A strum that's decidedly rusty just chipping away at the ice
And it's still swim or sink no more time to think
This path and the cliff up ahead
Which we drop over dead never to rise up again
Time look what it's done to thee
Sweet painted ladies of the Seven Seas
Cracked lime lights are broken and busted dark
Stage door all the hinges are rusted

Now I sit with my drink right where I belong
In the basement of the Tower of Song
With steps up onto the street where I don't recognise the beat
Huh huh huh
