Peregrine

This spring I saw a peregrine falcon
Dive across a mountain range
Curled in its wings, spun then took off
Moving faster than an airplane
I was climbing a rocky path
Making my way to the view
And each mile I looked back to see
That I wasn't any further from you

This spring I wrestled with boulders and hemlocks to try to get high
I came down with splinters and cuts on my shins
There was a crow that was laughing nearby
I was looking at anything
And tryna see past its disguise
But a conscious person should lock their eyes before they curl their wings spin then fly

I'll curl my wings and fly
Away from you tonight
I won't even say goodbye
As I dive across the sky

This spring I made a bridge out of stones
I stole from the river bank
And each stone was a step of its own
I took moving away
I was climbing a rocky path
Making my way to the view
And each mile I looked back to see
That I wasn't getting further from you

I'll curl my wings and fly
Away from you tonight
I won't even say goodbye
As I dive across the sky
Not even the fastest bird alive
Could escape its own mind
So should I even try
To dive across the sky

This spring I'm gonna curl my wings
Spin around and take a dive
