Crow

I found a crow in my garden
Blackened wings in shrubbery
And in it's murky eyes
I saw me there, a voyeur of despair

The gloss over his plumage
Encapsulates the night we're in
The ever restlessness
A wanting to see pretty stars again

This midnight Marauder
Of grass and twigs then turn to me
Let out a hollowed caw
And pressed his feathers up into the sky

And from behind my panels
I felt my pupils dilate
The image lay, now traced inside
The delicacy of my mind

Freely he roams
From the shrouded forest
To the comfort of the cobblestones
Deeply do I now wish to go
Riding on the back of an unforgiving crow

A casual night turned into
An unprecedented calm
Between the beast and I
Unaware who was playing who

Yet I am almost certain
My flying friend will soon return
When the world is at large
What else is a crow going to do

Freely he roams
From the shrouded forest
To the comfort of the cobblestones
Deeply do I now wish to go
Riding on the back of an unforgiving crow
My one and only foe
