The Ballad of Little Johnny
In this tiny dot on this big ol' map little Johnnys putting on his fresh pearl snap
Got a sweet young thang gonna take her into town tonight
Working 60 hour weeks making odds and ends feeding the cows fixing the fence
Saved it all up for a dinner at the finest dine
Sweet Mary Kay was no stranger to riches but in Johnny's eyes she saw ambition
She didn't care what mommy and daddy would say
So at 6 o'clock Johnny picked her up and they rode into town in that pickup truck
Not knowing the trouble once they passed the city limit sign
Couldn't find parking in that big long bed so they went down a few blocks instead to a dim lit alley
Not a soul in sight
Started to walk but never made it that night cuz there were 3 big men just looking for a fight
And that ambition turned to fire in Johnny's eyes
Gave Mary the keys said run to the truck lock yourself in and don't come out
She said Heavens to Betsy you better watch your mouth
But she looked at Johnny saw the flame burning bright so she ran to the truck and locked herself in tight
Watched it all happen from the dusty rearview
Said give us what we want there won't be no harm but he worked too hard and he worked too long
You want it come and take it that's what Johnny said
You sure act tough but we get what we want
Johnny said Huh yeah I think not
They rolled up the sleeves to their tattooed arms
And they rocked and rolled and the fists went flying
There was blood on the ground he watched the 3 men rise
And they walked off with everything he had
When Mary went home her parents found out shipped her off to live with her Aunt
And Johnny was left with a burning for revenge
He worked worked worked tried to ease his mind but he polished up that old .45
And took his truck into town for a drive
To this day he can't remember the drive or the walk down the alley on that gloomy night
But he found the 3 men he was looking for
With ice in his veins he reached for his hip didn't think twice hell he didn't even blink
Cuz he knew revenge was a dish best served cold
And the thunder rolled and the bullets went flying
There was blood on the ground and a spark in his eyes
And he walked off with everything they had
As the story goes Johnny went home never got caught just worked on the farm
With the memory of Mary fading away
Every blue moon he rides into town parks in the alley with the window down
And if he listens real close he can hear it blowing in the wind
And the thunder rolled and the bullets went flying
There was blood on the ground and a spark in his eyes
The night he walked off with everything they had
Got a sweet young thang gonna take her into town tonight
