Sacrifice

1973, Alice & Benny
were in the peak of their lives.
Both were photographers
about to make a sacrifice.
They reached the mouth;
it was the most amazing sight to see.
Benny held her hand
as she slid down carefully.
He let go
and she made it to safety.
The earth began to shake,
and Benny reached for Alice.
He pulled her up
and they fled to a safe distance.
As they turned the sky
filled with smoke and ash.
The volcano erupted lava
and spewed rocks everywhere.
The couple was pelted,
Alice fell,
blood poured from her hair.
Benny held her in his arms,
a storm of tears.

What's the real price you pay,
When at the end,
you're alone anyway?
What's the real price you pay,
When at the end,
you're alone anyway?
What have you sacrificed?

Six weeks pregnant,
at the clinic,
driven by her friend Tom.
She never knew
he was the one who raped her
when she was drunk.
He lied because
he, "loves her so much".
huh.
Let's say she had the baby,
we know Tom is crazy.
We can speculate how it ends:
rest in peace Martha.
Be careful what you sacrifice my friends.

What's the real price you pay,
When at the end,
you're alone anyway?
You're alone anyway.
What's the real price you pay,
When at the end,
you're alone anyway?
What have you sacrificed?
What's the real price you pay,
When at the end,
you're alone anyway?
What have you sacrificed?
What's the real price you pay,
When at the end,
you're alone anyway?
What have you sacrificed?
What's the real price you pay?
Sacrifice for love.
