My Grave

I don't remember the struggle
Of walking it alone
It's been so long now I
Can't even imagine you gone
I've heard people say
They gave 20 long years
And with passing time
All wounds will be healed
But that is them
Was never supposed to be us
In my mind there was never room
For pessimistic thought
Since day one when I vowed
Forever to keep you happy and now I see
The only reason it won't come to be
Vows broken started with me

Can we pretend I never hurt you
Can we act like we did
Before life created the man I became
Can I erase all your sorrows
I'll carry to my grave
And for the hard walk away
Dear Lord please give me strength

I used to be kept in a region
Where one would have to climb
Just to reach my condition ah man I was held high
Everyone that ever knew me
Said that I done it right
But they were wrong
When the breach started shaking
And the pedestal cracked some nights
I lay arrogant
Thinking you'd always be by my side
And now the steps I must climb
Prove we don't see eye to eye anymore
You only love what once I still adore
Comfort able but I still want more

Can we pretend I never hurt you
Can we act like we did
Can I erase all your sorrow
I'll carry to my grave
That I done it right but they were wrong
Oh remember the days the memories made
It was us against the world
All the obstacles we hurtled
You used to say it will always be this way
Till the day that we die
And girl I know you tried, so I
I'll just carry this
All the way to my grave
To my grave
