Quietus

A preternatural, sort of religious
peace inhabits me
A tremulous, fleeting peace
that separates my
best now from my best then.

And out, beyond the limits
of my ability,
not perfect, not even good,
just my best
here and now.

And on and on we carry on.
So long, so long we sing along.

A tranquil state, a peaceful lake,
the calm determination,
momentous declaration
of self-love, self-care
as altruistic contribution.

A quietus earned, a surface still,
a pebble's cast, and splash and splash,
a sound, a wave, the reach awaits,
and hark me back
or drive me on.

And on and on we carry on.
So long, so long we sing along.

Here's the choir, here's the children.
Here's the liar, here's the meaning.
Here's the end and the beginning.
Suffer all the little children.

And on and on we carry on.
So long, so long we sing along.
