Compromise

Something keeps me up at night
When it's dark outside
Nobody seems to care if I am here or there
Or if I'm free

Now it's been said to me
"Don't let it be"
"If you're a man, you have to stand or crawl
Which will it be?"

They feed me words like "destiny"
"Inherently"
"What you were made to be"
And I can't tell just what is right or wrong
Or if I agree

She dreams about the man I'll never be
Well should I make believe
Somebody's out there crying for the man I was
So should I grieve?

There're people marching in the street
Yet here I make believe
Somebody's out there dying for the one's I love
Should I grieve?

Count the numbers when we close our eyes
Call it "Compromise"
Tell us stories about the way things should have been
Then let them be

Something keeps me up at night
When it's dark outside
Nobody seems to care if I am here or there
Or if I'm free
