I got the book you sent me
Along with a pink envelope
I opened this envelope to find the card
You chose for me on my birthday
Which held your belated wishes for me in ink

I extracted from this card a bookmark
A thin strip of paper wearing a pink ribbon
On one side of the bookmark was embossed
The image of a pink rose, boarded
By gold and diamonds
On its plainer side you had written
At least for me
The three most important words in the world
In four different languages

I took the bookmark
And pressed it close to my lips
I felt my lips touch yours
And we shared a long and deep kiss
That I did not want to end

I kissed slowly, each of the words you wrote
In four different languages, my eyes closed
And with each moment
My breath was one with yours

Before I placed the bookmark in the first page
Of the book
I kissed it once more in the dark
Before going to bed
In the place where you wrote
Not the three important words
In four different languages, but your name
